A key in the Lady Tigers' success in recent seasons is the play of the defense. The philosophy that Coach Monaghan has for his team plays a large role in the defensive success. The Tigers deploy various formations throughout the course of the season, but rely largely on the 4-4-3 scheme.

Being a Lady Tiger

Head coach Brooks Monaghan and assistant coach Jodi Grant each know what it is like playing for the University of Memphis, as both are U of M graduates. The life of a Tiger student-athlete is a demanding, yet rewarding job.

The most important aspect of Lady Tiger soccer according to Coach Monaghan is the classroom. Secondly, playing soccer and lastly, social life. All Lady Tigers play for the University of Memphis by those priorities.

M Club Hall of Fame honoree Jodi Fisher (current assistant coach Jodi Grant) helped start the tradition of the Blue and Gray and Lady Tiger soccer in 1995 when the program began. A four-year letterwinner, Fisher was the first women's soccer player in the M Club Hall of Fame.
